This map shows the Twin Buttes region of Idaho that has been compared to the controversial "Face on Mars" feature first photographed by Viking spacecraft. On May 24, 2001 a NASA article "Unmasking the Face on Mars" quoted Dr. Jim Garvin as saying "It reminds me most of Middle Butte in the Snake River Plain of Idaho. That's a lava dome that takes the form of an isolated mesa about the same height as the Face on Mars."
