A recovery report is a portion of a NGS datasheet that describes the condition of a station at times subsequent to its original placement. Recovery reports may contain updated descriptions of how to find the station (the "to reach" description) and may describe its position with respect to nearby objects that are likely to be recognizable (the "ties").

When you write a recovery report for Geocaching or for the NGS, it is helpful to mention any changes (e.g., gravel road is now paved Hwy 999, railroad is now a hiking trail, fence and power pole no longer present), and if you had trouble finding the mark then give some new distance measurements in the same style as the NGS sheet (for instance to new fire hydrant, center of moved road, etc) to help the next person.
