The location of the St. Albans base line was determined in 1891 and measured in October of 1892. The measurement was supervised by ["R. S. Woodward"]. The measurement was performed with metal tapes, the first time that tapes were used exclusively for a precise base line measurement, although the tapes had been calibrated and used experimentally at the [:HoltonBaseLine:Holton] base line the prior year. The St. Albans base line length, reduced to sea level, was determined to be 3,870.4028 m, +/- 3.5 mm. The location of the St. Albans base line was determined in 1891 and measured in October of 1892. St. Albans Base Line (1891-1892)

Woodward] and was performed with metal tapes, the first time that tapes were used exclusively for a precise base line measurement, although the tapes had been calibrated and used experimentally at the [:HoltonBaseLine:Holton] base line the prior year. The triangulation for the base line net and the extended net was accomplished from 1879 to 1892 by [http://www.history.noaa.gov/cgsbios/biof1.html Walter B. Fairfield] and ["A. T. Mosman"]. The base line network connected to the [:AlleghenySeries:Allegheny series] along the Ivy-Summersville line, and connected to the [:OhioSeries:Ohio series] along the Piney-Pigeon line.
