Olney Base Line (1879)

The Olney Base Line in Jasper County, Illinois, was measured by the Army Corps of Engineers for the U. S. Lake Survey between July 9 and September 15, 1879. Since it was located near the 39th parallel and had been accurately measured, the CGS incorporated the base line into the Transcontinental Triangulation.

The length of the base line, reduced to sea level, was 6,590.7804 meters, +/- 8.9 mm.
