Ohio Series (1883-1890)
The Ohio series followed the valley of the Ohio River in Ohio and Kentucky. Assistant A. T. Mosman was in charge of the triangulation. The portion of the network between the St. Albans base line and Cincinatti crossed terrain of relatively uniform hills and ridges, requiring the construction of signals and towers on heavily wooded locations. Near Cincinatti through Kentucky and Indiana the terrain was flat and thickly forested with 100-foot trees. Towers up to 150 feet high were necessary to observe the lines. The network extended about 205 miles between base lines.
