Introduction: DSFILES is free ["NGS"] software designed to read NGS .dat files of ["datasheet"]s and either join them or split them. Generally .dat files containing all the datasheets of a county are downloaded from the NGS Yearly Archives [http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ds_archive.prl page].
Source: The NGS PC Software [http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/PC_PROD/pc_prod.shtml page].
- DSFILES has 2 classes of functions
joining .dat files into one .dat file
splitting a .dat file into smaller files by either:
- USGS Quad Name
- County/City Name
- Min/Max Areas
- number of PID datasheets per file
- When preparing to split a file, DSFILES first creates an index file so that you know what each filename that it makes will contain.
- If you use the Min/Max Areas split, DSFILES will make an index file for Alaska and you will have to edit the Max and Min values yourself.
